California Mom and Wife, Inspired by Her Own Healing Journey, Starts a Business to Bring Health Services to the Latino Community

Mother, wife, and cancer survivor, Nelly Pérez González ’05 turned her life experiences into a mission: to bring health and well-being services to the Latino community. Inspired by personal challenges and a deep desire to uplift others, she saw a gap in accessible health resources—and chose to fill it. In 2024 after completing a MOBI course with the , she launched to connect Latino community members with much-needed care and support, and she’s just getting started.

MOBI Success Story: Nutrivitamine Nelly, Owner
How it Got Started: Before launching her current business, Nutrivitamine, Nelly earned her degree in Spanish Studies from 911±¬ÁÏÍø (911±¬ÁÏÍø) and worked as a Spanish teacher and translator. In 2008, she started her first small business as a tax preparer and ran it for about five years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she shifted her focus to raising her children and began preparing Spanish lessons to sell on the Teachers Pay Teachers platform, continuing her commitment to education and community support in new ways.

Soon after, Nelly was diagnosed with cancer. She’s deeply grateful to the doctors, oncologists, and surgeons who supported her through surgery and chemotherapy. After treatment, she felt an abrupt drop in after care. “I felt very weak, was diagnosed with anemia, and I lost a lot of weight,” she shares. “That’s when I didn’t feel like I had the same level of care I had received before.”

Determined to heal, Nelly began researching alternative therapies. This opened her eyes to new healing paths—and to a bigger issue: health and wellness services are often hard to access in predominantly Latino neighborhoods. “These resources often exist in other parts of the city—places where our communities don’t typically live,” she explains.

Nelly started connecting friends and family to helpful services. In 2024, she formalized these efforts by launching Nutrivitamine. Today, she collaborates with nurses who offer services such as blood tests for hormone levels, thyroid health, anemia, and overall women’s wellness. She also sells holistic health products including vitamins, collagen, and other supplements. In addition, she helps make care more accessible by translating service descriptions and websites for Spanish-speaking clients.

How MOBI Helped: Nelly discovered MOBI through its partner . She completed Lanzamiento y Gestión Básica para Pequeños Negocios, LBFSV’s free entrepreneurship course in Spanish featuring MOBI curriculum. “I really value that LBFSV offers both in-person and online services to the community,” she says. “For people who don’t speak English well, this is a wonderful resource. It’s hard to know where to begin and how to get the necessary licenses.”

Though she had prior entrepreneurial experience from her tax preparation business, she learned new tools and strategies. “Things are different now with technology. I used to market with newsletters, but now it’s all about social media,” she reflects. She found MOBI’s marketing sessions especially helpful and appreciated the practical resources. “The hyperlinks to government websites were so useful—they really help you know where to go next.”

What’s Next: Nelly is currently pursuing a certification to become a health advisor, which will expand her ability to support her community’s well-being.

She’s especially passionate about breaking the stigma around women’s health. “There are so many taboos that we don’t talk about—not just in Latino communities, but in general,” Nelly says. “Women’s health hasn’t received enough attention historically. I want to help people feel seen, to let them know that what they’re experiencing is normal—and that there are ways to feel better.”

Nelly is applying the marketing strategies she learned from MOBI to grow Nutrivitamine. By continuing to collaborate with nurses and promote their services, while offering her own products and support, she’s building a business grounded in service.

“I see this work not as a business, but as a passion and a service,” Nelly says. “Helping others and making a difference in their lives—that’s success to me.”
